In passing this space, I had been immediately intrigued by it. I had also felt attached to it. It was barren and full of potential. The openness and banks of broken concrete felt like a natural, spiritual thing to find in the city. However upon returning to the site I noticed some activity in resurfacing the land in preparation for perhaps some kind of development. Either way the space remained interesting. I had decided to have a dialog with the space as well as the people around it. I felt like setting up my easel and drawing board to let the space know as well as the people around, that I was not just passing by, I was experiencing the space and actually looking at it. I stood at my easel for about five minutes until I was unexpectedly joined by another.
What I did not expect was an immediate response from the public. As I was standing there, a man had parked next to my car, got out and came to look at the barren site 10 feet from where I was standing. I hadn't realized how little it would take for me to make someone else view the space as I did. Maybe it was curiosity. He may have been wonder why I was standing there. After standing there for a few more minutes he had got back in his truck and left.
