Brittany Kowalski, Brady Wolchansky, and Corey Smith: GPS Drawing

Our drawing was constructed by randomly chosing cars to follow.  Once we started to follow a car, we trailed it until it reached its destination.  At that point we picked a new car to follow.  The first car took us from MIAD to an apartment near UWM. The next car we followed turned a corner and parked.  The next car took us to a parking lot on the corner of Plankinton Ave and Kilbourn Ave.  Our final car led us to the Aurora West Allis Medical Center on Lincoln Ave.  In our car we discussed if the lead car's driver knew we were following him or her.  In addition, we hypothesized what his or hers destination was.

Our return trip to MIAD was significantly different than our original drawing.  This inspires questions about "the journey" one chooses to take to a destination.  How does one select a route?  How do we navigate?  Major influences include but are not limited to: available modes of transportation, access to technology, environmental factors, time, aesthetics, knowledge, preference, and personal experience.  While navigation is not uniquely human, our relationship with choice and travel is.

Navigation has evolved from hardwired survival instincts into an amalgamation of complex components embodying individualism.

Man VS. Nature

House with the Vines
(On N Van Buren St, in between Brady St and Pleasant St)

SITE: The image on the far left is a recent picture of the house, after the vines were taken down.
Man over-powers nature.

INTERVENTION: The image in the middle is taping a leaf back onto the house.
Man and nature working together.

METAPHOR: The image on the far right is a picture taken by google earth last year sometime, with vines.
Nature takes over man-made house.

Just about everyday I have to walk past this house to get to where I live, and what made this house stand out to me the most was the fact that the entire front of the house was covered with vines. This house had such a unique quality, and recently the vines were torn down so that the house could be sold. For my intervention, I went back to this house and taped a leaf onto the house as a memory of what once was. I also wanted to put back what man had already taken down. Of course I can't do this entirely, so the one leaf is more of a symbol of that idea.

Flaming Burger

*drools*
(PUBLIC)
TOO many people do not know of this beautiful restaurant's existence, especially since we (Milwaukee) are now located roughly 2,000 miles north of it. Flaming Burger is one of the many GOOD burger places in Dallas, Texas, but this burger establishment in particular is one of the newest, less known, of them. Flaming Burger has been open for only about nine or ten months now, so it is especially important that this place be recognized. Here is the exact location of FLAMING BURGER:

Coordinates: 37 25.818' N, 122 05.36' W

Front of Restaurant:

Though it is not located in one of the most visually appealing buildings, it is, as the popular phrase says it, "what is in the inside that counts." If any of you have ever had the opportunity to visit one of the nations most prized cities, DALLAS TEXAS, then you probably (should) know the difference between a GOOD burger and a poorly made burger. Those who know KNOW what I am talking about. And what better example of this "good burger" than Flaming Burger.

The last time I visited Dallas, I ate at Flaming Burger three days in a row. My dad and I also eat here often when I am in town. The prices are pretty reasonable and the service is divine! What more could one ask for when searching for the best burger experience?! NOT MUCH. (PERSONAL)

So what are you waiting for??! Go online and buy a ticket for Dallas RIGHT AWAY, so that YOU can be one of the first Milwaukeeans to enjoy Flaming Burger!
